Steve Hart scored a second half 7 minute hatrick leaving Heather St Johns shell shocked as
Atletico cruise to their biggest away win of the season in the last landlords derby.
AFC hit the ground running from the whistle, with Luke Richards making Tom McNulty save and
Steve Hart seeing his effort blocked, before Kai Tonge gave Hinckley the lead in the 6th minute.
Josh Burniston had his left side cross cleared away by a header, but only as far as the edge
of the area and as the ball dropped Tonge unleashed a volley that left McNulty stranded and
nestled into the top left corner of the net. AFC kept the pressure on as Rich Munday saw his
header from a free kick cause chaos in the goal area as it was scrambled away just short of
the line. It took Heather 15 minutes to get into the game, but once they did, they were always
looking to set free their target man Simeon Cobourne, who spurned two chances first going
around Carl O'Neill but being denied by a Josh Willis tackle, then second making himself space
and firing goalwards for O'Neill to make the save. AFC had a second chance cleared off the
line as Tonge saw his flick on deceive McNulty, but not Michael Bloore who was stood on the
back post. This was crucial minutes later when Dave Yonwin opened up the AFC defence with a
run through the right channel and crossed low to Cobourne at the back post to tap in the
equaliser for Saints. As the game approached half time Heather lost their influential captain
Thomas Weale to injury which would prove very costly for them in the second half.
With no Weale for Heather, Hinckley dominated the midfield and the game was won in the first
10 minutes of the second half as Hart scored his 7 minute hatrick. First, Hart in the right
channel saw his cross cleared, only for it to come straight back to him and fired in a shot
across McNulty into the top corner. Second, Richards took the ball on a run on the left side,
cutting in to goal and forcing McNulty to parry his shot, where the ball fell kindly for Hart
to pounce and tap into goal. And Third, Tonge beat his marker on the right and chipped the ball
to Hart on the left side, who cut back inside his man and fired past McNulty scoring his hatrick
and making it 1-4 to AFC with only 10 minutes of the second half played. Hart then provided an
assist for Richards who somehow pushed his volley wide from close range, before Hart added
his fourth with a quarter hour remaining. Running onto a flicked on ball, Hart cut inside
taking the ball around two defenders and placing past McNulty. The 'cherry on top' was to
come from Tonge in the final minute, again out pacing his marker on the right cutting inside
the area and as McNulty came out of goal slotted the ball underneath him scoring Hinckley's
sixth.
