Atletico's winning streak of seven games ended as 10 man Lichfield battled away in the second
half and a late Dominic Perkins goal saved a point for AFC.
AFC started the brighter of the two teams and had City on the back foot for the first half an
hour of the game. Luke Richards saw an early shot deflect wide, before Russell Todd denied him
with a smart save. For City the pacey Ben Lund was always a threat and Ty Belford had to be
alert twice to deny the Lichfield striker. It was AFC who took the lead on 24 minutes when
Richards ran the left channel and played in Steve Hart, who guided the ball past Todd. It seemingly
got worse for Lichfield on the half hour when Lewis Bourne went in two footed on Hart for which
the Lichfield defender was shown a straight red card. AFC finished the half the stronger as City
regrouped but didn't take advantage of the greater numbers. Todd again denying Richards and then
tipping over an Isaac Cooper long range effort.
After the break City reset themselves and switched tactics, swarming the midfield and then hitting
long for Lund or Dan Griffiths to run on to. This worked very well as AFC were caught out time and
again relying on Belford a number of times. City were level 10 minutes into the half as Lund outpaced
the AFC defence and squared to Griffiths to slot past Belford. Hart then had 3 good chances to
score for AFC, first a free kick was comfortably saved, then he missed from close range when well
placed, and finally Todd tipped away his header from a Cooper cross. Hinckley had not learnt their
lesson with Lund's pace, and just after 70 mins as AFC were all caught forward, Lund ran onto a long
ball out of defence and scored when one on one with Belford. The final 15 minutes was Hinckley throwing
everything forward trying to get something out of the game, and just when it looked like City would
hold on for an unlikely win, Todd again saved a Hart shot, but this time it fell to the feet of Dom
Perkins, who tapped into the empty net levelling the scores and rescuing a point for AFC.
