Atletico march on in FA Vase after another great victory, knocking out a second step 5 team,
with a club debut goal from Dominic Perkins giving AFC a second half advantage.
With Josh Willis cup tied the midfield had a change around with Jake Healy and Asa Wright
coming back into the line up. Despite a good first 10 minutes from AFC where Luke Richards
saw a goal bound shot blocked, Deeping looked very much like a side at the top of their step 5
United Counties Premier, as Henry Dunn headed over and Scott Mooney fired wide, with Daniel
Schiavi getting into good areas but being well marshalled by the Hinckley defence. As Deeping
looked to tighten the game on Hinckley, AFC hit them with a sucker punch on the break. On 25
minutes Marcus Jackson cleared from midfield towards Steve Hart on the edge of the Rangers area,
with only one intent Hart drove into the area, past two challenges, seeing a small gap and
slotting the ball into the near post giving Hinckley an unlikely lead. It was nearly two minutes
later but Isaac Cooper saw his long range effort dip just over the crossbar. Deeping regained
their composure and forced the equaliser just after the half hour. The AFC midfield were caught
in possession and Mooney was released down the right, as his cross found Charlie Coulson in the
centre Ty Belford made a superb point blank save to deny him, only for the ball to land at the
feet of Scott Coupland who had the simple task of tapping into the net, levelling the scores at
half time.
After the break AFC subbed on Kev Thornton and tightened up a little across the midfield restricting
Deeping's efforts on goal for the second half, though an early excellent free kick from Schiavi was
equally excellently saved by Belford. AFC began to grow more confident and Hart was unlucky not
to score from another Jackson cross, before Dominic Perkins restored Hinckley's lead with 20 minutes
remaining. Cooper saw his long throw headed goalwards by Perkins and even though Rich Stainsby got
a touch taking away some of the power, the ball dropped just inside the far post, giving the
central defender his debut goal for AFC. As Rangers looked to regroup and search for another
equaliser, AFC hit them a third time minutes after taking the lead, with Cooper curling in a wide
free kick inch perfect onto the head of James Williams, sending his header back across goal
out of the reach of Stainsby making it three for Hinckley and a little gap of daylight between
the teams. Now Rangers would throw men forward for the last 15 minutes trying to get back in the
game, leaving lots of space at the back. Hart and Thornton combined well to exploit this space
and the latter fired goalwards with Stainsby getting a touch, just taking the ball away from
Richards. Then as the Hinckley defence and midfield dropped deep defending their lead, Deeping
were unable to break through and in the dying seconds Hart was released on the break driving
into the area on the right and as his shot beat Stainsby it agonisingly came back off the post,
but wasn't to matter as this was the last action of the game and Hinckley were into the 4th round
for the second season running.
