Atletico's title hopes were seriously dented after losing this top table clash at Sheepy
Road, Atherstone comfortably winning after a 10 minute 3 goal spell either side of half time.
On a heavy pitch Hinckley had a lot of possession but similar to the previous week against
Bromsgrove struggled to convert any chances. Tom McNulty made a couple of good saves from
Ryan Seal and Sean Williams before tipping over a 25 yard free kick from Jake Woolley, making
his debut for AFC. Atherstone had been content to try to disrupt Hinckley's attack, trying to
pick up the pieces on the break. Ryan Paddock had a great chance to open the scoring for Hinckley
but his effort hit the under side of the bar bounced down on the line and was cleared to safety
by the Adders defence. AFC were punished for that miss minutes later when Atherstone in their first
attempt on goal, took the lead, Ashley Gray broke away on the left and crossed to the far post
where Aden Moore was unmarked to blast home.
Within 5 minutes of the second half Atherstone had scored two more, first Hinckley failed to clear
a corner and the ball fell to Alex Naughton who scored from close range. Minutes later again AFC lost
possession in midfield and Naughton turned provider for Moore squaring the ball to him to make it
three. Hinckley continued to try to create chances but just couldn't get to grips in the midfield
and Atherstone comfortably saw out the remainder of the half to record their first ever victory over AFC.
