Bromsgrove showed exactly why they are top of the league with a comprehensive victory
over Atletico, going into a 0-3 lead at St Johns Park, with Hinckley's consolation goal
coming from Greg Pearson late in the game.
Looking to extend their lead at the top of the table, Sporting took control of the game
early on, with just 10 minutes gone Josef Jakab guided his header from a corner deftly
over the reach of Tom Cross into the net. Luke Richards responded for Hinckley and was
desperately unlucky when his header across Chris Jay beat the Bromsgrove keeper, but
rebounded off the inside of the post back into the keepers hands. Then on the half hour
Jakab again headed past Cross from 6 yards when the AFC defence didn't pick up his run
from a corner, giving the Rouslers a 0-2 half time lead.
Any hope of a come back was thwarted 5 minutes into the second half when Sam Wills was
given time and space on the edge of the AFC area and teed up the perfect shot out of
the reach of the diving Cross and just inside the post to make it 0-3. With Bromsgrove
now happy to soak up pressure and defend their comfortable lead Hinckley looked to get
back into the game somehow, and were finally rewarded with a consolation goal with 7
minutes left after a good run by Javia Roberts on the right and a low cross through
the area for Greg Pearson to tap into the net at the far post. However there was not
enough time or momentum for AFC to build on that goal and Bromsgrove saw out the remainder
of the match untroubled.
