Atletico eased through to the next round of the JW Hunt Trophy, with a comprehensive victory
against Continental Star, aided by a Ryan Seal hatrick, and the entertainment provided by
Sam Arnold playing a 5 minute cameo on the left wing.
The JW Hunt Trophy is played to raise funds for Midlands Blind charities, which was
fitting considering some of the decisions made by the officials on the night, but ultimately
did not cost AFC the game. Hinckley had the perfect start, taking a 3-0 lead in the first
quarter, first with Seal after Luke Richards set him up perfectly for a tap in, then
Rico Taylor with a wide right curling free kick which evaded everyone in the area including
the goalkeeper into the net. Then Richards added the third after his shot was parried, but
only as far as straight back to himself to tap into the goal. Hinckley carried on in the
same vein for the rest of the half, but were thwarted on many occasions by some over eager
offside decisions keeping the half time score down to 3-0.
It would only take AFC 10 minutes of the second half to add to the score, when Taylor, Richards
and Seal all combined in a lovely passing move with Seal adding the finishing touch to
make it four. Continental did get a goal back on the hour but the four goal cushion was
restored with 15 minutes remaining when Seal played a beautiful through ball for Richards
to run on to and he also scored his second of the night slotting under the keeper. For
entertainment value as Sean Williams went off with an injury, the final substitute for AFC
was goalkeeper Sam Arnold, who spent the last 5 minutes of the game on the left wing.
Amazingly with his first touch of the ball Arnold guided it into the goal, only for a
linesmans flag to rule it out, despite clearly coming from behind the ball player to score.
With Arnold's second touch he was set up superbly Seal, however his goal bound shot
cannoned back off the bar and was cleared to safety. In the final minute Atletico were
awarded a penalty, and with the crowd urging Arnold to take it, Seal took the strikers
option and scored his hatrick goal from the penalty mark.
