Athletico continue their FA Cup journey into the 1st qualifying round after battering
Bromsgrove at the Victoria ground. Luke Richards, Marco Adaggio, Nathan Walker and
Jean Kalenda scored the goals that created history.
For third match running Hinckley started with the same outfield players, and straight
from the kick off took the game to Bromsgrove, taking the lead after just 7 minutes. Sean
Williams did well on the right and crossed to the far left of the area, where Richards had
pulled in unmarked and slotted the ball home from 8 yards. Sporting did equalise on the
quarter hour with Sam Wills timing his header perfectly looping it over Sam Arnold in the
AFC goal, but Atletico continued to push forward despite that, with Javia Roberts and
Williams causing the Sporting back line plenty of problem. It was Roberts on the ball
in the 18th minute which saw the talking point of the match when the AFC winger was
on the edge of the area, and was brought down from behind by Simon Fitter. With most
people in the ground expecting a yellow card the ref, who was only 5 yards from the tackle,
decided the Sporting defender had gone over the top of the ball and showed the Fitter a
straight red card. To add insult, Walker lined up the free kick and struck the ball
beautifully into the top left corner of the goal with Brendon Bunn rooted to the spot.
Only a minute later and AFC increased their lead, Roberts coming in from the right, crossing
central and first Adaggio had an effort blocked, then Richards saw his follow up blocked until
the ball came to Kalenda on the edge of the area who fired into goal from 18 yards making
1-3 to Hinckley. Arnold was forced to tip over a Luke Dugmore long range effort before
Atletico added a fourth just before half time, when Walkers perfectly timed pass set Adaggio
free down the middle, slotting past Bunn when one on one.
With Sporting coming out looking to get back into the game early, the tie was virtually won
in the 53rd minute when Richards scored his second of the game for AFC. Roberts again doing
well to win the ball and get it into the area, Richards took the ball around Bunn and slotted
into goal. With the game over as a contest, tempers began to fray, and there were a number
of flash points resulting in a flurry of yellow cards. With the clock running down Josh
McKenzie scored a consolation goal for Bromsgrove, but Adaggio restored parity in the final
minute when Richards went on a mazey run through the Sporting defence only to see his hatrick
effort come back of the base of the post, straight to Adaggio who tapped into the goal making it 6
for Atletico.
A fine game for AFC and more history created for our club making it through to the 1st qualifying
round of the FA Cup, in this our first ever season of the competition.
