A goal in each half saw Atletico beat fellow title contenders Lichfield City. Luke Richards
and Javia Roberts goals were enough for AFC to win a good footballing match between two
sides who are both expected to be up there at the end of the season.
Fresh from the big win against Studley, the same team started the match as did previous and
it was an open, flowing, end to end game with both teams looking to pass the ball.
Lichfield had the first opportunity with Tony Clarke seeing his effort saved by Jack Hartopp.
AFC replied through Richards forcing Sheridon Martinez to parry away low to his right post,
before Jean Kalenda unleashed a 30 yard powerdrive that beat Martinez but cannoned off
the cross bar. Hinckley did take the lead shortly before half time when Sean Williams did
well in the centre and played in Richards on the right who took one touch then calmly lifted
the ball over the advancing Martinez, into goal. Roberts then had a glorious chance to make
it two right on half time when he was played in almost on the goal line by Williams but a
perfectly timed block tackle from Joe Cole kept Lichfield in the match
It didn't take Roberts long in the second half to make up for missing his chance, as 5 minutes
in he had doubled the Atletico lead. Richards did well on the right and crossed to the far post
where Roberts dived full length to force the ball over the line. Roberts then reciprocated for
Richards, crossing from the left, but Richards was unlucky to see his effort strike the base of
the post. Williams then ran through the middle and forced Martinez into a good save, before
Lichfield had a rare second half attack with Odane Barnes putting his header over when well
placed 8 yards out. Hinckley were content to see out the last minutes and held on for a very
good 2-0 win.
