The new season kicked off for Atletico with a win away at Cadbury Athletic, featuring
5 players making their debuts for the club.
In glorious sunshine AFC showed off their new kit, with Jack Hartopp most splendent in
his pink keepers top, and 5 of the starting players were wearing the colours competitively
for the first time. In defence Liam Smith, Jamie Newton and Jean Kalenda were at left back,
right back and centre back respectively, whilst in midfield Neil MacKenzie and Javia Roberts
were in the centre and wide right.
The game itself was a very tight affair with few chances for either side, Atletico had the better
chances of the first half and Cadbury the better chances of the second half. Nathan Walker saw his
chipped effort come back off the crossbar and Luke Richards had a long range effort drift wide
of the goal before Marco Adaggio gave Hinckley the lead right on half time. Richards original
driving shot was parried by Shaun Hayes, but Adaggio was quickest to react and headed the ball into
the net.
The second half saw Cadbury as slightly the better team and they created more work for Hartopp, and
one save towards the end of the game was as good as a goal. Ryan Spink evaded the AFC back line to
get on the end of a cross in the goal area, and Hartopp spread himself to deny the Cadbury
midfielder at point blank range.
A low key start of the season but ultimately three points away in a tricky opening game.
