Atletico eventually eased through to the next round of the Senior Cup, despite the
physical challenge Allexton & New Parks put in front of them. Luke Richards helped
himself to a first half hatrick, before Ryan Taylor, Matt Gardner and Nathan Walker
sealed it in the second.
Allexton & New Parks chose an 'anti-football' approach to the game, which was disappointing
especially as in the first 10 minutes looked as if they could actually play a bit of football.
Some good running in the channels led to Dom Smith mis-timing his tackle in the area and the ref
awarded a clear penalty to ANP. Smith was bailed out by Sam Arnold in the AFC goal, as he dived the
right way, saved the penalty, then cleared the ball to safety. Then 10 minutes in ANP attacked down
the left, the player came inside then from around 30 yards fired in an unstoppable shot, only
for it to cannon off the inside of the post and away. This was the last of the football from ANP
for the night. 20 minutes in ANP's Rhys Lelacheur had a rush of blood to the head, as he tried
to use it to connect with Dominic Oliver, the ref being only yards away had no choice but to show
the ANP forward a straight red card. This meant for the rest of the match instead of ANP playing
football, they just tried to stop AFC playing theirs. Luke Richards was singled out for some
questionable tackles, but had the longest last laugh on the night, starting in the 28th minute when
from 35 yards out, spotted the ANP keeper off his line and perfectly lifted the ball over him
and into the net. 4 minutes later Oliver played a superb defence splitting pass through the middle,
Richards ran onto it, controlled it with his first touch and scored with his second. 5 minutes
before half time 10 man ANP got a lifeline when a free kick from the left wasn't dealt with and
was forced into goal from close range. However Hinckley's reply was immediate and completed Richards
15 minute first half hatrick. From the restart, Richards received the ball and ran at goal,
as the tackles came flying in, he avoided them all, running into the area, cutting back inside and
going round a further two defenders, then slotting the ball under the keeper in a 'Ricky Villa' stylee.
That was the end of the nights work for Richards as he was replaced in the second half with Ryan Taylor.
Though a lazy start to the second half saw ANP score a second goal. Sam Arnold recreating a Hugo Loris
charge out of goal, saw him catch the ANP player going away from goal and the ref showed him a yellow card.
From the free kick, the ball was not cleared, headed back across goal and tapped into the net at the far post.
Atletico regained their two goal lead with 20 minutes remaining, when Tyrone Clark-O'Connell did well
on the right and put in a cross that came to Ryan Taylor on the edge of the area who took one touch and
curled the ball around the ANP keeper, making it four. 5 minutes later it was five, Ryan Taylor received
the ball tightly marked but his back heel found Matt Gardner running at goal and he blasted the ball
into the net. The final touches were added by Nathan Walker right on time, a Clark-O'Connell cross was
half cleared to Walker 20 yards out who fired through the crowded area, the ball somehow slip through the
players legs and past the stranded keeper rounding it off at six goals.
