Fans interested in continuing the legacy of football in Hinckley met to discuss the
issues facing them in setting up a brand new football club after the demise of Hinckley
United.
Since United ceased in October 2013, a 'working group' had begun to look at options
available and at a public meeting of interested fans it was voted to form a new 'community
co-operative trust' with the ethos of 'one member one vote'. Every member of the community
trust would have one share in the new football club and every member would have an equal
vote on matters concerning the football club.
The name of the new football club was also voted on, and those interested at the meeting
voted for the name Hinckley Association Football Club. There were 3 choices, the most
popular suggestions from social media, being Hinckley Phoenix, Hinckley AFC and Hinckley
Nomads, with Hinckley AFC receiving the overwhelming majority of the votes. |
